Is there Medicaid restrictions on expanding a house or adding a separate house on the land?
Not on SSI,For example, if my mom is on Medicaid elderly programs (not on ssi), and on a Medicare Asset Protection Trust, ladybird, irrevocable trust, etc (retains ownership of the house). and decides to add to the house a separate room, kitchen, bathroom, whether connected to the main house through a room or fully built separate mini house in the backyard (total house value would be under $500k for both main and mini house which would be within Medicaid rules), would Medicaid have a problem if I the son pay in full for the expansion or separate mini house (while she is on Medicaid elderly programs)? Obviously payment to contractor won't be deposited into her account as it would be me paying directly to the constructor. Would they count it as a gift in other words violation? What about the future if I start a family and live in the main house and my mom in the mini house? (Would Medicaid have a problem with it)?
